How correctly to install a modem

Connect using IR-port connection*:
1. Turn on IR-port on a phone.
 
2. Place IR-port of the phone across IR-port PC at a distance of no more than 10cm.
 
3. Wait for an icon of IR-connection in a right bottom corner of a monitor to be appeared – ñonnected.
 
4. Then will appear a window with a name of the phone – modem installed successfully.
 
5. Start configure the modem.
 
* At the connection through IR-port it is necessary, that in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 would be installed, otherwise there may be problems with Internet connection.
 
Connect using PCMCIA-card:
1. Place SIM-card in a special socket of PC.
 
2. Wait for a message about successful setup of “Standard PCMCIA-modem” to be appeared.
 
3. Start configure the modem.
 
Connecting through a cable or Bluetooth the modem should be configured manually:
1. Connect the phone and PC with help of a cable and turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
 
2. On PC press Start > Options > Control panel > Phone and modem.
 
3. In the opened window choose the bookmark “Modems” and press the button “Add”.
 
4. In “Setup devices wizard” mark off the field “Do not define a type of the modem (select from list) and press the button “Next”.
 
5. In the window “Install modem” press “Install from disk” and choose from which disk (or folder) your modem will be installed.
 
6. In the next window choose the needed modem (your model of the phone) and press “Next”.
 
7. Specify the port number to install the modem (for example, COM 1), press “Next”.
 
8. After a notification of an incompatibility of a system and the modem to be appeared press “Continue any way”.
 
9. Wait for the message “The modem installed successfully” to be appeared, press “OK” and start configure the modem.
 

How to configure the modem

Before configure the modem make sure the phone is connected to PC.
 
1. On PC press Start > Options > Control panel > Phone and modem.
 
2. In the opened window choose the bookmark “Modems”.
 
3. Select your installed modem and press the button “Options”.
 
4. In the window “Modem options” choose the bookmark “Additional connection options”.
 
5. In “Additional initialization commands” enter the modem initialization line**:

** The contract subscribers which was connected before 25.07.2007 need to use:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","www.umc.ua" (for Windows 9õ-XP),
+CGDCONT=1,"IP","www.umc.ua" (for Windows CE and PALM OS) or
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","www.umc.ua" (for Linux).
 
ATTENTION! All symbols should be entered without spaces.
 
Press “OK” – the modem is configured, start making connection.
 

How to make a connection

Before making the connection be sure of the phone is connected to PC:
 
1. On PC press Start > Options > Control panel > Network and remote access to network > Make new connection.
 
2. In the window “New network connection wizard” mark off “Phone connection to internet” and press “Next”.
 
3. Select “Make connection manually” and “Connect to network using LAN” and press “Next”.
 
4. In the opened window mark off “I connect to internet using dial-up connection” and press “Next”.
 
5. Select your installed modem using a list and press “Next”.
 
6. In the opened window mark off fields and press “Next”.
 
    • Enter the phone number:
    • If you have the phone such brand as: Ericsson, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Pantech, Nokia, LG: *99#
    • If you have the phone such brand as: Alcatel, Siemens, Panasonic: *99***1#
    • If you have the phone such brand as: Samsung: *99**1*1#
 
ATTENTION! All symbols should be entered without spaces
 
Disactivate “Use city code and dialing rules”
 
7. In the opened window mark off fields and press “Next”:
 
    • login: mts
    • password: mts
 
8. In the next window enter a name of the connection – MTS GPRS and press “Next”.
 
9. Then if you wish you may configure e-mail (ask your provider for needed data, which gives you an ability to use e-mail service).
 
10. Remove a mark for no connection would be available and press “OK”.
 
11. On PC press Start > Options > Control panel > Network and remote access to network.
 
12. Open MTS GPRS connection by clicking the right button of a mouse and select “Options”.
 
13. Open the bookmark “Options”, disable “Prompt for login, password, certificate and etc.” and “Request phone number”.
 
14. Select the bookmark “Network” and verify that:
 
    • in line "Type of connected remote access server" would be selected
      "PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet"
    • in list "Components used with this connection" would be selected only:
      “Internet protocol”  (TCP/IP) and “Scheduler of QoS  packages”
 
15. Press the button "Settings", disable "Use program compression of data" and press "ÎÊ".
 
16. Select “Internet protocol”  (TCP/IP) and press “Options”.
 
17. In the opened window mark off:
 
    • get IP address automatically;
    • get DNS-address automatically;
 
18. Press the button “Additional” and in a new window:
 
    • mark off “Use main gateway for remote network”
    • mark off "Use compression of IP-headings"
 
19. Press “OK” – new connection created, try to use internet.
 

How to use internet

 
1. Connect the phone to PC.
 
2. On PC press Start > Options > Control panel > Network and remote access to network > MTS GPRS.
 
3. Wait for an icon “of two computers” on a taskbar to be appeared. If you wish to disconnect, click the icon  “of two computers” with the right button of a mouse and select “Disconnect”.
